FAQ
Q. How old do I have to be
to join and do I have to have reached secondary school yet?
A. We take on youths
between the ages of 11 and 21, but no, you don't have to have started
secondary school yet and we'll even take you on after you've left until
you turn 22. However, our youth theatre is predominantly 14+ members and
you may find you'd prefer to start with pantomime, before you try out for
Youth Theatre productions.
Q. How much is membership?
A. For youth members,
membership is just £5 a year.
Q. I only really want to do
acting. Am I guaranteed a part in productions?
A. In order for the PYT to
run independently and self-sufficiently as a Youth Theatre, it is
essential that everyone is willing to be a part of every production
(provided, of course, they're around for it). There are no guarantees for
parts as, obviously, the number of parts and the number of members will
always be at odds, however we do strive to allow everyone who wants to act
the chance to take part in at least one production a year. But, in return,
we do expect those who aren't playing a part to do their bit by taking on
one of the essential backstage or offstage roles - after all, a cast isn't
all you need to put on a play!
Q. Do you have facilities
for wheelchair-bound people?
A. Our auditorium has
recently undergone renovations which include ground level access to the
auditorium and foyer, and ground level toilet facilities, however our
rehearsal space is upstairs and as of yet there is no alternative route
up, also there is currently only stairs access to the stage from behind
(for actors during productions).
Q. Do you have any
credentials?
Both Clare and Mark (PYT
Co-Ordinators) have a few years of voluntary experience behind them in
working with young people, as well as a life-time of experience in the theatre
on Clare's part (including an acting award). Both co-ordinators are CRB
checked, and are volunteering their own time to make this venture
possible.
